As the CEO of a giant FMGC, there is an inevitable need to juggle my responsibilities at work, family and social functions. As such, I have neglected much of my health while running the business. I used to be afraid of running. Despite having an active background as a kid, something about exercising outside of a sport seemed really unpalatable. The gym and the idea of testing my endurance in any form made me nervous. Which is why I knew that if I wanted to overcome my fear of exercising, I had to engage a personal trainer to do it right. On top of keeping me accountable, Timothy planned the workout sessions strategically – starting out with the foundations to build basics, then pushing it to a new attainable level every next session. He knew what I was capable of before I could see it for myself. Thanks to Timothy, I feel comfortable using the various machines at the gym as well as being equipped with simple workouts that I can do at home. More importantly, thanks to Timothy, I now find the real joy in working out, that is feeling strong and alive. I saw physical results after our hardcore sessions together. Transformation happens with the right effort. What I gained from his training was more than physical results though; it was a change in mindset of how I saw myself and what I am capable of. I no longer fear running. I no longer view the gym as a place where only exercise buffs exist. Now, I feel refreshed after every sweat session. Now, I try to eat better. As such, I was sceptical at the beginning. Jovin came highly recommended by a good friend, whom I realised in time to come is a passionate, outstanding master of his craft with warm, spontaneous personality which makes working out enjoyable. Jovin is hugely responsible; always respectful time & reaching 30 mins before our session. He is the perfect combination of strict and tough yet keeping the session fun and gratifying. With Jovin’s knowledge and diverse training methods, every session is a fresh new experience, I could never guess what he has planned. I am a couch potato, I love games, I snack a lot, until I met Jovin, he showed me how leading a balance and healthy lifestyle can guide me to finishing my first ever triathlon, I dreaded working out in the gym, an hour in the gym could be better spend on my PS4, frankly speaking, training with Jovin for an hour feels like 30-45mins, it passes by in a jiffy, it was enjoyable, fun and Jovin’s jovial personality does it for me. He also encourages me to join a triathlon, I eventually joined and completed it, that was the biggest milestone up to date and I am looking forward to my next challenge.

My transformation from the then curvy me, with much stubborn fats to lose, to a leaner, meaner and more confident me is no easy feat. Of which, I owe it to Timothy, my Personal Trainer and since then, a trusted friend. In 2015, I challenged myself and took part in an esteemed female pageant, Nutrigirl. My PT Tim, motivated, gave me the tools and necessary training to achieve my fitness goal. With Tim’s extensive knowledge and enthusiastic commitment to his work and clients, Tim individualises my exercise program and diet in view of my hectic work and study schedule, of which we also set a challenging and achievable goal. In that session, other than body assessment, Tim explained how our muscles work, how best to exercise our bodies and how to maximize effort. With that, I was convinced that he can transform me. In addition, when I am pressured about my upcoming competition, Tim will be there to encourage, motivate and give me the advice I needed. Through consistent and positive feedback, Tim not only retrained my body but also retrained my attitude, which in turn instilled the confidence I needed to run the pageant. I signed up a 10 class programme with Kaelan and the objective was to tone and develop lean muscles as my annual health check suggested I needed more muscles.
Personal training, as the name suggests, it is personal and regime designed specifically for the trainee. What I ABSOLUTELY LIKE about Kaelan:
1. He really is a trainer and NOT a salesperson. He will NEVER hard sell the idea of taking up more sessions or sale of discounted protein shakes when training me. He worked me at an optimized level in the gym and to the best I can, even my colleagues could see my sculpted arms and my back muscles now.
2. He educates me the muscle groups + workout and patiently explains every question I have including monitoring my progress
3. He created a calculated bespoke caloric diet incorporating some of my favourites (e.g coffee) so I could find this new lifestyle/diet sustainable and not at all miserable!
4. Flexible with gym locations and easy to arrange a session (he never cancels last min and never made me wait).
5. He would also modify certain workout routines for me so I could still work the same muscle areas and not compromise my form and if I am overseas he would tell me what workout I could do.

I really think having a personal trainer you feel comfortable with is highly important because it is not sustainable if you lack endurance or motivation. Kaelan was personable and even though there were things I could not do at the start, Kaelan never made me feel lousy. We even had our fair share of laughter and that really made the workout not feel like work. Workout should never feel like a torture, if on my own or with a wrong trainer, gym sessions could be agonizing. With Kaelan I never felt that way and I look forward to EVERY session!

I would sacrifice drinks on Wednesdays just to train with Kaelan because I feel empowered becoming stronger, fitter and emerging from the gym with a strong sense of accomplishment.
