I wanted to get ready for a local competition. Unlike my competitors who had a single-digit bodyfat percentage, my body fat percentage of 21% meant that I was not going to be stage ready. I was clueless about macro nutrition, cardio and my weights training program was a mess. I used to follow random fitness celebrities’ workouts on Youtube. Then, I met my personal trainer Tim from Team UAF. I was apprehensive as I have heard stories about personal trainers making you sign, renew packages and blaming the unsuccessful transformation on the client’s failure to adhere to a diet. But my personal trainer was different. He was patient, nice and very reasonable. He designed my training program and diet and the workouts we had was fun and full of variety. I was accountable for my food intake and I shared my meals with my trainer and he shared his with me too. I enjoyed the process very much and we even joked about each others food intakes at times. When I ate badly, he would “fine me” with 50 burpees, 100 push ups and 200 squats, all performed without rest. I can never forget the punishment!

 

Mind muscle connection was key to developing stubborn body parts, which helped greatly in maximising every single training session. I learnt proper lifting form and techniques and how to avoid injuries while training. I could feel my chest muscles hardening up and lines appearing on my abs. I have never seen those before! This journey was not only fulfilling, but has also boosted my self-confidence.

 

My body started transforming after about 6 weeks of training. My diet was on point, my cardio program was well-balanced without burning off the muscle gains I’ve made, my abs started to show and my body fat percentage was heading towards the single-digit. Each time I looked in the mirror, I only became more motivated, and eventually I was at the best physical version of myself.

Born fat, an endomorph, I was given the bad genetic sentence, but that didn’t deter me from trying to lose weight. I have tried every diet trend, from ketogenic, Atkins, vegetarian to weight watcher diet. My personal trainer Jovin came highly recommended by a good friend, whom I realised in time to come is a passionate, outstanding master of his craft with warm, spontaneous personality which makes working out enjoyable. Jovin is hugely responsible; always respectful time & reaching 30 mins before our session. He is the perfect combination of strict and tough yet keeping the session fun and gratifying. When it is too tough, it makes me want to skip the next PT session. But Jovin is interestingly a funny guy, cracks a lot of jokes during sessions, but we get the work done, from bodyweight exercises, to agility training, to weights, to power training, to sprints, and boxing, Jovin has it all cover, the more I train with Jovin, the more excited I am to do the next session, though results was slow, because I refuse to diet, but I am still seeing changes in my body, I went from 65kg to 53 kg in 1 year of working out consistently, I would receive 630am whatsapp reminder from Jovin to do my morning cardio diligently, without fail, 3 x a week. He is a committed, dedicated and talented trainer, who goes out of his way to make sure I do my due diligence. Thank you Jovin for this wonderful journey.

I engaged Kaelan as my private personal trainer for 1 reason, to lose bodyfat percentage and tone up my mid session as it was always wobbly, soft and unsightly. I kickstarted my program with a basic 10 sessions package, although the price was a little steep for me, but having a personal trainer come to my location to train me save me time on traveling and membership fees. Kaelan provides an excellent private personal training service, he will come with his own equipment, ranging from agility ladders, resistance bands, TRX, kettlebells and weights to train me.


Personal training, as the name suggests, it is personal, and regime designed specifically for the trainee. What I ABSOLUTELY LIKE about Kaelan:
1. He really is a personal trainer and NOT a salesperson. He will NEVER hard sell the idea of taking up more sessions or sale of discounted protein shakes when training me. He worked me at an optimized level in the gym and to the best I can, even my colleagues could see my sculpted arms and my back muscles now.
2. He educates me the muscle groups + workout and patiently explains every question I have including monitoring my progress
3. He created a calculated bespoke caloric diet incorporating some of my favourites (e.g coffee) so I could find this new lifestyle/diet sustainable and not at all miserable!
4. Flexible with gym locations and easy to arrange a session (he never cancels last min and never made me wait).
5. He would also modify certain workout routines for me so I could still work the same muscle areas and not compromise my form and if I am overseas, he would tell me what workout I could do.

I really think having a private personal trainer you feel comfortable with is highly important because it is not sustainable if you lack endurance or motivation. Kaelan was personable and even though there were things I could not do at the start, Kaelan never made me feel lousy. We even had our fair share of laughter and that really made the workout not feel like work. Workout should never feel like a torture, if on my own or with a wrong trainer, gym sessions could be agonizing. With Kaelan I never felt that way and I look forward to EVERY session!

I would sacrifice drinks on Wednesdays just to train with Kaelan because I feel empowered becoming stronger, fitter and emerging from the gym with a strong sense of accomplishment. It isn’t just an hour in the gym, but I honestly learned and benefitted from the takeaway after every personal training with Kaelan. Thank YOU, Kaelan!
